Many guns and items from ETG are included, but not all. The differences between the levels can range from subtle to drastic, and have profound impact on the difficulty.Įnemy spawning is wave-based and, along with boss choice, “massaged-procedural,” but the elevators make stops at hand designed rooms filled with enemies, NPCs, minigames and other ETG staples like Bello’s shop.

This means the majority of “levels” (read: elevators) in a character’s route will be unique to them. There is actually one level where you do literally climb, however.Ī crucial point that is mentioned in the description but may be slightly obtuse in the way it is phrased is that, instead of the Characters having unique pasts, the have unique… paths. We are calling the game a Dungeon Climber™, but in truth you are riding an Elevator most of the time… Finally all that stuff you gave Tailor the Tinker has paid off. ie, H-Bux drop from bosses, and you spend them at the newly relocated Gungeon Acquisitions Department and Doug’s Traveling Load. New guns and items are introduced to the pool through largely the same means as in ETG. There is a combo system that powers the relative quality of the gun that your weapon will switch to, as well as a number of other things (still balancing…) The runs are shorter than ETG, and the game is generally more arcade-y.Īll runs are “blessed” runs, where the Sorceress has your gun changing every few seconds, and your power accrual over a run is through passive items and Contra-style powerups. The game is a roguelite-like-lite with permadeath, where you try to escape the Gungeon as it crumbles due to wanton firing of a certain time-space murdering gun. Everybody loves hats, and spin-offs, which this game is… of Enter the Gungeon.įor a store page, we have to condense a lot of thoughts into a few short sentences, but we can take the time here to go into some more detail. Shifting rooms, enemies, bosses, bizarre weapons and items all combine to ensure that no two attempts to Exit the Gungeon are the same.Īlso, you can wear hats. Battle against the last and most bitter of the Gundead at a frantic pace, slowing down just long enough to chat with some familiar faces… and a few new ones.

The Gungeon has become a paradox and is collapsing! Armed with an ever-changing weapon, an insatiable need to loot, and the trusty dodge roll, each of our heroes must ascend and escape via their own unique route of increasingly perilous elevators. Here is the description we wrote for the store front:Įxit the Gungeon is a bullet hell dungeon climber immediately following the adventures of the misfit ‘Gungeoneers’ and their journey for personal absolution in Enter the Gungeon. Think of Exit the Gungeon as a tasty post-meal dessert… that you can eat on the toilet. Fundamentally we just really thought that Exit the Gungeon was the funniest name… and also it is literally about Exiting the Gungeon. However, signalling the smaller size in the title made it sound too small, and had the opposite effect. When coming up with the name there was some concern that Exit the Gungeon sounds a bit like it’s a sequel even though the game is not at that scale. While it does take place immediately following the events of ETG, veteran Gungeoneers should know by now that chronological events are malleable, and prone to killing. As far as we are concerned Singlecore is family at this point and you will likely see another collaboration between us in the future.Įxit the Gungeon!? Is that a sequel!? Why not call it Enter the Gungeon 2: Exit the Gungeon?Įxit the Gungeon is a smaller game than Enter the Gungeon, and we are referring to it as a spin-off. With the exception of the writing, which was handled entirely by Dodge Roll, every part of Exit the Gungeon is the byproduct of shared blood, sweat and pixels. So is it a Dodge Roll game or a Singlecore game? As you have hopefully noticed by now, over the last two days Dodge Roll and Devolver Digital have announced a new game in the Gungeonverse called “Exit the Gungeon.” We wanted to take a few minutes to talk about the game, its inception, and its release, so let's dig in.Ī few months ago, when we announced that we would no longer be building content for Enter the Gungeon, we mentioned that we had some interest in working on something a little smaller before moving onto our next “big game.” At that time, we had actually already partnered up with a friend of ours, who operates his own studio as Singlecore Games (you should check out his previous games, Dungeon Warfare and Dungeon Warfare 2!), and together we’ve been working on something new: Exit the Gungeon.
